Marking its one millionth connection, Last Mile Asset Management has energised and adopted the electricity connection to Moto Hospitality’s new Moto CHARGE hub at Tamworth, taking responsibility for the high-capacity electricity infrastructure required to power one of the UK’s most advanced motorway charging sites.

As a strategic delivery partner, Last Mile Asset Management played a key supporting role in the project, energising and adopting the infrastructure that would meet the significant electricity demands of both electric passenger vehicles and electric heavy goods vehicles (eHGVs). Located at a key motorway service station on the M42, the hub demanded significant engineering, coordination and delivery expertise to create what is reliable, available and high-capacity infrastructure.

Last Mile Asset Management was a key stakeholder from the first stages of the project, working with the local electricity distribution network owner and our partners GRIDSERVE and Actemium to create a 33kV connection, an onsite primary substation and four secondary substations. This specialised infrastructure supports 24 bays for passenger vehicles and a further eight bays specifically dedicated to eHGVs, representing a major expansion of public charging infrastructure in the West Midlands.

The Moto Tamworth project demonstrates that Last Mile Asset Management is not only the adoption partner of choice, but also a trusted member of the delivery team – capable of unlocking the most challenging aspects of EV infrastructure deployment. As the industry pushes toward nationwide electrification, particularly for freight, the ability to secure, build and energise high-capacity grid connections continues to be invaluable.

The scale of the Tamworth development highlights a growing reality within EV infrastructure: the hardest challenges are not with the chargers, but with the securing the necessary grid connection. Connecting sites with the capacity to support eHGV charging requires navigating constrained networks, securing high-voltage connections, and delivering assets that can handle sustained, high-load demand – areas where Last Mile’s involvement proved critical.
